Will words and literature be a way to build public spaces for the mind in a city where public spaces for the body are expensive, unequally distributed and even running out?
According to the UN, 68% of the world's population will live in urban centers by 2050. Bogota, for its part, has experienced accelerated growth in recent decades, leading to large number of neighborhoods lacking in financial and technical development support from the government, spaces without adequate infrastructure and, above all, lacking green areas for their inhabitants.
On the other hand, according to the TomTom Traffic Index 2023, Bogotá, which has been trying unsuccessfully for more than a century to build its first metro line, is the most traffic-congested city in the world, making mobility for citizens and access to the city's green spaces difficult.
“Word Parks?” is a speculative temporary art project based in Bogotá, which aims to create park landscapes in six neighborhoods of the city where green areas are limited or simply private. The installation questions the lack of green areas in Bogotá and the difficulty of accessing them, but also seeks to create the possibility of spaces and interactions in the city without creating physical space, but using the evocative power of words and literature.
