Den Faden Aufnehmen is an artist book designed in collaboration with the german artist Jeanne Schmidt. The project focuses on themes such as ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief, particularly in the context of adults who grew up with mentally ill parents. The publication is conceived as a tool for self-help and reflection, and was created in connection with workshops developed by the artist involving embroidery, drawing, writing, and dialogue.
The book consists of a four-part Leporello structure, including an introductory booklet, a manual with exercises, a documentation section, and a collection of resources. It also contains a set of 34 double-sided cards combining hand-drawn illustrations by the artist with informative texts and prompts for creative exploration.
The design emphasizes tactility, modularity, and accessibility. Each card and section is meant to be rearranged, laid out, and used interactively by the reader. The soft colors, hand-lettered elements, and minimalist layout reflect the sensitive nature of the topic, while also highlighting the clarity and structure of the content. The result is a publication that merges editorial design with pedagogical function—offering readers a space for engagement, reflection, and emotional connection.
